The basic's for the start of my main tale... First, you should read "about: the basics" found to the left. Like mentioned above, my main story is about a boy and a girl. I started it because I wanted to learn to draw people... and I needed them to be interesting to me in order to want to do it. I gave them this story.

Their world has this legend that the royalty of each of the three main countries should basically unite their bloodlines at some point, to make it one land: and, after thousands of years, that time has arrived. When Princess Keireia is born, High Princess of the Unicorn Lands, she's betrothed to the son of the High King of the Dragon Lands, who was born a year earlier. It is thought that this is the prince that is destined to grow up and slay the world dragon. When he's three, and right after his brother Rylyn is born, the world dragon breaks free of it's curse 20 years early and destroys the castle on the Isle of Mist. This is where the royal family of the Dragon Lands has been living; everyone is killed. Keireia's betrothal is switched to the new heir, Godan: the cousin of the prince that died, on his mother's side. He's just slightly younger than the first prince. Godan's right to the High throne is contested though, there's a few kings that say their blood is "stronger" than his.
The story starts off when... When she's twelve, Keireia finally gets to travel to the Dragon Lands, to meet her husband to be for the first time. They wont be married until she's 16 but there was no reason for them not to meet. And she's horrified by him. He loves tormenting her with cruel threats and outright torturing others. She doesn't believe he could be her king, she can't subject herself to marrying him, no one cares or listens- because it's her duty too do it anyway, ...and she's terribly afraid. So she runs away.
Keireia decides that she must make sure that the king she was truly betrothed to is really dead. She feels that he isn't, she's compelled to search for him. She's been told that the prophecy said that she'd only bear the children of the true king, who will be the one she loves.. and every girl's fairytale dream in this world is that story.. so she was hoping it wasn't just a fairy tale after all. This takes her to the Island of Mist...
A huge spoiler in my story is that, of course (it's so cliche) that Urack is the real prince. I go through a great deal of trouble trying to make it not so obvious when I tell the actual tale, but it's not worth the time being subtle here. See, he's immune to magic, (read the section on Morning) and 1/2 actual dragon, so he's fairly fire proof. He escaped the World Dragon's flames by being carried away by an enchanted Stag (who was burned and killed by the furthest licks of the fire) and was found, the next day, in the forest outside the castle by some looters. They took him back to the shabby squatters village on the other side of the island and raised him there there. The stag had also been carrying his father's sword, the Great King's sword, and it was placed in a pile of crappy rusty weapons in a storage shack at the back of the village. Urack was kind of adopted by a guy who thought he wanted a son. He turned out to be a horrible person- the older Urack got, the more he was ignored, or beaten. Urack kind of had to go from person to person to survive... like a stray dog. The other kids bullied him, most of the adults didn't want to be bothered by him, so he recluses more and more into the woods. This really freaked the villagers out because "only ghosts and monsters inhabit that forest." When a hunting party would come to the island, for the enchanted beasts that were fabled to be there, he would be their guide- the villagers pretty much nominated him for it because all of them were so afraid of the forest. The more time that went on, the more they thought he was a monster. He loved to fight, he didn't mind gore, and he had become completely bizarre in every way to them (who wouldn't when they're being ostracized.) When he was around 11-12 he was chased out of the village and actually hunted. They wanted him dead. So he now lives in the forest, alone, except for his dragon friend, Norie.
And that's where fate really starts working on the two of them. They meet in the woods: Keireia, a fairly bratty and spoiled princess, and Urack, an angry little fighter who hates people. At this point she's already scared out of her mind (she's NEVER done anything by herself before) and seeing Norie doesn't help, she slips and knocks herself out. Urack tries to help her but when she wakes up she's so annoying that he doesn't want anything to do with her. He ignores her for the short time she's around him before the royal guard shows up- He realizes she's running from them and, unlike his previous self, tries to defend her. He's not all that sure why she is but he can see how afraid she is of them; like it would be death to go back, and he understands that. He's not really a match for them though. They're both capture and taken to the mainland. The villagers helped make sure of that too, they had nothing good to say about Urack, they wanted to be rid of him- and the royals needed a scapegoat- so they said that the princess would never run away but it was, instead, that he tried to kidnap her. Keireia hears of his eventual plight; he's the only person who's stood up for her, and something in her changes... she actually feels responsible for something. So, once they're on the main land, she helps him escape his imprisonment.
This is where their travels begin. Chased and outlawed, their only wish to stay alive and free.
The story splits in a few places.... the main story is years of them running, all kinds of weird adventures, fights, and a ton of angst. When they're around 16-17 Urack enters the Tournament of Knights again (he won it when he was 13, it's held about every 4 years) and the main story had him and Keia escaping from it and Godan, to Misty's Castle, where he discovers he's King and is taken to the Dragon Isle while Keia is captured by Godan. I sometimes had fun splitting it there and having them grab the prize money and going through the Maw to Neiking where they build a house and get married and lead a mostly stress-free life until their kids grow up. That second story, the "Other Story" has so many branches and arcs that I don't think I could keep track of them. It's my REALLY guilty pleasure and, unfortunately, almost all of my more recent art revolves around it and not the real story arc.
