~story: the the dragon lands and people~
Each of the three major countries has their own race, culture, as well as interesting differences to note. This is some basics on the Dragon Lands. This page is a work in progress as of December 01, 2008.
Influences:
I have a lot of German in my blood; I also love stories of warriors, knights & vikings, and dark cold lands with harsh, strict, people. ..Like Conan! It is a land of a secluded, patriarchal, superstitious people who's word, and valor, mean everything to them. This is the foundation for Urack's homeland.
Language:
It'd be pretty much some sort of Germanic or ...maybe... Scandinavian sounding language. It has to be harsh and kind of guttural because that's how it sounds out when I try to fake what I think it would sound like. Here's a good list of some of what I'm thinking: YouTube Videos and this is what I pretty much had in mind: YouTube Video (Arr!)
Appearance of the People:
Flat tipped ears. Blue or brown eyes are the most common colors, can be green too. The men usually have dark blonde to dark brown hair, the women usually have black or red hair. There are woman with brown and blonde hair, and there are men with black or red hair, it's just less common. A very strong looking people. The landscape has dictated their dress: they usually wear leather knee high boots and leather gloves or gauntlets to protect themselves from the rocks and rough scrub, cloaks and sashes to help cover up and protect from the cold, as well as long pants that tuck into their boots, vests or jackets, and long shirts with a collar that laces up. The woman wear about the same; but there's usually a dress (or skirt) over their shirts and pants and their boots don't go up to the knees. It's popular for dresses to have a collar and long sleeves and for their hair to long, but kept in a tight style.
Culture:
Fidelity is their definition. A very conservative people. They have firm ideas on how things should be done. They don't have much of a religion but they do pray to their ancestors. If you don't know who your ancestors are, you're kind of out of luck (and thought of pretty lowly.) Who you descended from means a lot to them.
Landscape:
Mountains and dark over grown pine forests with rocky shores. Lots of snow- but it melts rather quickly if it's not on a peak. Cold and windy at night. Gold-gray grass in the few forest openings. Sharp, cold, streams cutting through the jagged rocks.
Food and Industry:
Goats, hunted meats, cold weather plants like tubers, wine, mining: gems and gold, metal crafting: weapons, tools, etc... charcoal, leather, fur, wool, leather working,
