This section contains the colored and black and white art featuring my characters and their little world. This should help illustrate how I draw and what most of my drawings look like. The Black and White and the Talking Heads: Folders sections show this the best: I doodle, a lot, and it's not great stuff- but I have tons of it! Basically, all my ideas get filed away like this. Like in all the sections of this site, some of the pieces are very old. Newly updated works for this section will be posted below... until the section is updated next.
Color
Sketches: This contains the most 'finished' looking work. Some pieces are
complete illustrations while other work found here was abandoned before it was
finished.
Black
and White Sketches: This section contains exactly that- Random doodles of
my characters and world. Eventually this will be absorbed by the Talking Heads
section. But, for now, there is work in this one that you can't find in the
other one yet.
Talking
Heads: Folders: Think of most of the art here like little, uninteresting,
unorganized, story boards that I doodle all the time. I don't really care that
they look like crap when I'm drawing them because they're just me getting my
thoughts down on paper. I'm posting the pages as they are ordered in the folders
I'm storing them in. So far each folder on the site contains between 130 and
304 pages. The art in the folders really varies. Some has a combination of older
and newer work that got mixed in together and some are more consistently from
a single style period. There is, and will be more of, my art from the early
90's (when I started drawing my characters) to the present day. I used numbers
as links to the images, instead of the tiny thumbnails I use on the rest of
the site because, when I use those, it's too hard to keep track of what one
has and hasn't looked at. There are too many files in this section to work it
that way. And the text, for the most part, is blurred out because I still don't
feel comfy posting my horrid writing on the open internet.
To give you an idea of exactly how much I draw; this is an old picture (maybe from 2002) of my 4 drawer filing cabinet that is full of, and only contains, my character drawings and stories. The second picture is of the files that are in the drawer that wasn't shown.
September 5, 2008: I changed this section a lot! Besides some text changes I added approx 796 new pages to the folders section and resized the previously added (approximately) 831 pages, so they're bigger and crisper. I also added these pieces:
The name, Talking Heads, is a bit of joke. I'll explain a little: I've always doodled... a lot. Most of it is my character stuff. Their story, a crap load of story arc's that never happen but are fun/interesting to me, or just randomness. I'm too spazzy to draw them in panels: like comics, or frames: like a story board- but that's basically what these are to me; story boards. For the most part- these are me jotting down ideas so I don't forget them and most of these are sketched out as quickly as possible so I don't loose my train of thought. They have just enough information so I can remember what the characters were doing and saying, and where they were, but that's about it. Some of the stories start in one folder, end, and then were picked up years later and the rest was placed in another folder. Most of them, story and art-wise, are crap. But they're fun for me. So, basically, because of the random quickness, most of the pages look like they just contain talking heads.
You might note that a few of the pages are missing. This is because I made a html template for posting these and it was too much work to rename and move stuff. Some of the pages were left out because of things like; they had nothing on them and I scanned them by accident, they had stuff on them that I didn't want to post, I scanned some twice and messed up the numbering, they were all text, etc...
In September 2008 I combined the talking heads and folders section into one and redid the small pages previously in the "Folders" section so they're quite a bit larger (thus being easier to view.) Eventually I plan on having practically ever page of every doodle I've ever done of my characters (and some random stuff that slipped in) on loose paper posted on this site. I'll continue to scan new works and to go back and scan my old ones as well. (Other character stuff can be found in my sketchbooks, which are in the other art section.) I'm posting these for a few reasons. 1) I wanted to scan all of this stuff anyway. It's nice to have a backup and I'm obviously obsessed with my scanner. 2) Because I was scanning them I thought, "Hell, why not post them on my character site." 3) I apparently have a problem and want people to think that I'm a shitty artist. 4) Because I want people to see that I draw a lot and don't get that far but I keep doing it anyway. Maybe it's a sadistic way to say; "If you like my art, keep drawing and don't let frustration get the better you. You'll probably be better than me in no time and nothing could make me happier. I love it when people love to draw." 5) I want for anyone who is interested to be able to see how my art and characters have progressed over the years.
