These are some major secondary characters.

Twall started out as a really minor character, but I loved him too much to keep him that way. His mother was of a gypsy tribe of people that are fabled to have some goat blood in them. They're free and flighty and really belong to no country. Twall's father, Marcello, was a well known pirate, with some royal blood in him- but only a ship to his name. While he and his crew were on land, making repairs and getting water, he fell in love with her and she became... rather quickly, pregent She asked to come with him and he didn't want to say no. After a few months at sea it was apparent that she was becoming ill though -so they made landfall in Neiking (what little it was then) and she gave birth. She loved the area, and it's eclectic people, but never recovered and died before Twall was a year old. Marcello felt compelled to raised Twall there, to make his dead love happy, so he put all his efforts into making the village, and resort, of neiking -a metropolis, a gem in the world, making it everything he loved. The range of people there was about as extreme as you could get but everyone loved him (or loved doing deals with him) so he was quickly elected as its mayor. The village grew to a town and, since it had no king ruling that part of the land, they petitioned the crown to make him theirs.
Twall was a horrible little monster growing up (heh, not that he changed, he just learned to hide it better or get other people to do it for him.) He was charming and knew how to manipulate people, but he'd rob you blind and stab you in the back without a moments hesitation, just to get what he wanted... & never with an ounce of remorse. Marcello didn't give him any money, because he didn't want him getting into trouble, but he was too quick and smart to let that be a hindrance. He pick pocketed, gambled, and his little gang mugged anyone, just about for any, or no, reason. He spent a lot of time at sea with Marcello's old crew- Being a pirate, learning the seas, learning people. He wasn't a great fighter but he was so clever that she could get into and out of anything: and get out of it on top. The crew started calling him the Sea Fox and after a while his reputation grew so that everyone knew they didn't want to mess with him; for fear of the inevitable reprisal. Twall always has his revenge but he likes waiting to dish it out... he likes to come up with something he finds really enjoyable. Basically what Neiking, and her pirates, became was a mafia run town. With Marcello as boss and Twall next in line. It wasn't long before Twall was being put in charge too. Marcello started coming down with an illness that many long term seafarers get, a kind of rot that is incurable and makes you weaker and more deformed. The last two or three decades of Marcello's life were spent in a tower, hidden from view, where he was just an advisor to Twall. The more time that went on, the less Twall needed him... but (unlike even I would think) he always took really good care of him and visited him as much as possible. The first few years they pretended that Twall was only acting as an agent for Marcello. They didn't want any enemies to try to move and take advantage of any unforeseen weakness in their dealings. Eventually people started calling Twall "mayor" and then "prince." But, the last few years of Marcello's life, people started realizing he was the one running things and the term "King" slipped out more and more.
Twall never gets married. Heh, he's married to his city. He has too many lovers to count but eventually he "adopts" Chelsea, one of his illegitimate children ...out of a very rare bout of guilt! When he's informed by one of her friends that his beautiful once-lover died, and that the child's got no other family, so she's going to an orphanage, -I think he became sentimental. He loves Keia, and her children, Indra had just been born, so maybe a little bit of (brief) longing was thrown in to the mix.
Twall can't help but be loved by the Unicorn people. He is the epitome of everything they relish. He throws the best parties! Everything is about entertainment and good shopping. They know he's a scoundrel but that hardly matters to them. Urack, on the other hand, can't stand him and can not understand why Keireia puts up with him. He gets so jealous and Twall wont hesitate to flirt with her in front of him. I mean, Twall gave Keia her first kiss! He probably would have raged and killed Twall at a few points, except that would have made Keia unhappy, and Twall certainly would have gotten someone to off Urack, but he knew Keia would figure it out. She always saw through him and he knew it and loved it. The three met when they were children but Urack and Keia had to leave abruptly one night and Twall was let somewhat confused and heart broken. She is the only woman he's loved and when he meets her later in life, he's secretly crushed to find out she's already married to Urack and that he missed his chance.
Twalls name comes from the french of scenic fabric: Toile. His mother wanted to name him that because "Marcello, Twall was the first gift you ever gave me. What name could be more perfect than that?" (Because, you know, they had just taken a ship carrying fabrics, so what other present could he have for her) And Marcello loved that she was kind of odd. Twall thinks it's the most retarded name on earth. Jesus, how long am I going to go on about this character? Twall wears big hoop ear rings and likes cranberry colored bandanas. He always dresses well, even if it's kind of funky, over the top, stuff. He'll wear any kind of jewelry, and makeup! and he dyes his brown hair green: He looks too normal for his own liking. You see his roots a lot. He hates meeting with the High King because he has to dress normal and he just looks like some short dork. His eyes are very clear, very much like the strange eyes of his mother's people.
His first mate, and right hand man on land, is a guy named Seb. He's usually in charge of Twall's ship when he can't be at sea (which is often)
